These flash drives contain five files of early Highland County history in pdf format, accessible on both Windows and Apple computers.
Each file is searchable using the pdf find tool (control+f). The information can be enlarged for easy reading using the zoom tool.
Pages of the files may be printed, but the files themselves cannot be copied from the flash drive.

The complete 1847 Highland County Land Tax Records, 92 pages. Information includes owner’s name, number of acres, location description, land value, and amount of the tax.

The 1862 Confederate States Tax Record Book for Highland County, 23 pages. Information includes owner’s name, number of acres, property value, number and value of slaves, money at interest, cash on hand or on deposit, number and value of livestock, number and value of gold watches, number and value of pianos, total value for the owner, and the tax amount.

Highland County marriage records for 1861-1893, 57 pages. Entries include the bride and groom names, ages, birthplace, and names of their parents. Also included is the location, marriage date, groom’s occupation, and name of the minister performing the marriage.

The Church Register of the McDowell Circuit, marriages for 1894-1905, 6 pages. information includes the bride and groom names, the minister performing the marriage, and the date of the marriage.
